Aussie man accused of bestiality rekindles relationship with partner (2025)

The partner of a man accused of being one of NSW's worst animal abusers has rekindled their long-term relationship claiming'everyone deserves a second chance'.

Colin Baker was arrested at the home he shared with Mick Mepham atMoorland, near Taree, on April 30 last year.

Baker, 38, was charged with more than 60 criminal offences including bestiality, producing and disseminating bestiality material and accessing child abuse material.

NSW Police allege Baker, who had the online pseudonym 'Beast Boy', abused a seven-year-old rescue chihuahua, a golden retriever, a chicken and a ram.

Police further allege Baker filmed himself violating a dead kangaroo and used encrypted messaging apps to share his material.

At the time, a tearful Mr Mepham told Daily Mail Australia he was 'shocked and confused' when he learned about the allegations.

Mr Mepham added it was difficult to reconcile the person he loved and the person who allegedly committed such horrifying acts.

However, messages shared online between the pair show their romance and relationship is still intact despite Baker's arrest.

Mr Mepham told a social media user he was still in a relationship with Baker, the Herald Sun reported.

'I honestly believe he can be fixed and that everyone deserves a second chance,' one message read.

'No one deserves to be alone … No one should be alone without moral support.'

Just days after police had raided their property, Mr Mepham shared a photo of himself with Baker.

Social media users questioned the timing of the photo, with one commenting 'why???' to which Mr Mepham replied: 'Can't fall out of love... will get him the help he needs.'

In November last year, Mr Mepham shared a picture of himself in bondage, similar to the attire Baker had worn on a fetish website where his username was 'beast_boy1'.

Mr Mepham has since posted several photos of Baker on his personal social media account - the latest of which was shared last month.

Court documents revealed some of the original charges will be withdrawn, with Baker facing 42 remaining charges.

The charges include13 counts of bestiality, four counts of producing bestiality material, six counts of disseminating bestiality material, one count of possessing bestiality material, 16 counts of using a carriage service to access child abuse material, two counts of possessing child abuse material, and one count of using a carriage service to transmit child abuse material to self.

During the raid, authorities seized several items from the property - including Baker's computers, hard drives, and Mr Mepham's beloved seven-year-old chihuahua Loppy.

Police allege Baker had been sexually abusing the dog behind Mr Mepham's back.

Court documents obtained by Daily Mail Australia reveal police will allege Baker sexually abused several animals and filmed the acts in Moorland between 2020 and 2024.

On three separate occasions in 2020, he allegedly had sex with a chicken, ram, and a dead kangaroo - and filmed the act with the marsupial.

Over the next two years, his attention allegedly turned to abusing a large brown dog.

During that period, he allegedly made the dog sodomise him while recording the act before distributing the exploitation material online. Police will allege that happened twice in August 2022.

Police will further allege he also distributed those videos again in early 2023 to people online.

It will further be alleged raped Loppy on 15 March last year before raping a Golden Retriever the following day.

During that same time frame, police will allege he accessed child abuse material including 7 photos and 27 videos - including one showing little boys being sexually abused by men.

There were also allegedly 364 files of child abuse material found on a hard drive seized from his home.

Baker was arrested following an investigation that began in February last year, led by theNSW Police sex crime squad's child exploitation unit.

Sex Crimes squad commander Detective Superintendent Jayne Doherty said Baker's online presence was prolific.

'His online presence indicates there is a lot more than what we have so far viewed. We have viewed in excess of 500 videos at this point,'Doherty said after Baker's arrest.

Baker is set to appear at Taree Local Court on May 12. He was formally denied bail and has yet to enter a plea.
